A free alternative to Jomo

Jomo has the most thought-through rule engine of any blocker on the App Store, and it is Apple only. If you are on Android, or you have one of each in the house, it is not an option at any price. Otto is on both stores and free.

Jomo's prices as listed on its own site and US App Store page in September 2026: $5.99 a month, $29.99 a year, or $99.99 once for lifetime access shareable with five family members. The free tier gives you one session, one limit and one budget.

Where Jomo is the better buy

Jomo is the power user's choice and it is not close. Routines, Focus Filter sync, unlocks gated behind an NFC tag or a QR code stuck to the fridge, website and keyword blocking, and a real Mac app that shares the same rules. If you want to build an elaborate system and you live entirely inside Apple, buy the lifetime licence and enjoy it. Otto has two rule types and no Mac app.

Where Otto is the better fit

The case for Otto over Jomo is short: it runs on Android, and there is nothing to buy. If you want a daily budget on four apps and a hard block in the evening, the elaborate system is overhead you will spend a weekend configuring and then never touch again.
